Cuban-American hip-hop trap artist starts movement with ‘Soy Trapero’

MIAMI, FL – After more than a decade as a professional musician, Salazar is branching out on his own and creating a solo career that he knows will entice millions of fans worldwide.

Born in Miami, Florida to Cuban parents, Salazar’s childhood dream was to follow in his father’s footsteps and play professional baseball. But while growing up he was exposed to musicians and the art of expression through writing, and he very quickly developed a deep love and appreciation for music. He began rapping at age 17 and formed the group Age of Destruction. The group gained enough attention that he was soon associating with professional artists such as Trick Daddy and Timbaland. As he began to fuse his Hispanic heritage into his music, he became noticed by several top A&R companies, and eventually signed with Sony Latino in Miami. He collaborated on a number of different tracks and spent most of the 2000s working on a promising music career.

But the joy of music soon became overshadowed by the business of the industry and he found himself wanting more and more to remove himself from the life choice he had pursued for so long. In fact, it wasn’t until recently that he decided to return to music and pursue a solo music career. He said the main thing that convinced him to come back was the surging popularity of trap music – a style that he had perfected in the early 2000s before it became a popular sub-genre of hip-hop. His first song after coming back is a single called “Soy Trapero,” which is a made-up slang term for anyone who loves trap music. It features two other artists – Chief ELI and ex president of Maybach Music Latino U.B., from the Spanish Division of Rick Ross’s Maybach Music Group. To say the single has put him on the map is an understatement. It’s a song that has started to create its own movement – from clothes and hats to being the No. 1 artists on ReverbNation for Miami.

“I’m trying to rise up again and I want people to know that I’m not a new-schooler,” Salazar said. “I’ve been signed to majors. I know how the game goes. I’m not looking to get signed this time around, I just want to do it on my own and generate money. I’m even thinking about making a movie called ‘Soy Trapero.’ I’m trying to do something huge by creating a movement around this whole idea. ‘Soy Trapero’ isn’t just a song or a single, it’s a movement. And at the end of the day it really represents what I want to do – which is to entertain. I do all types of music and I produce all types of beats and there are a lot of things I can do and that I’ve learned to do since I started as an artist in 2002.”

Salazar said his goal is to revolutionize Latin music by bringing hip-hop to the Spanish community in ways similar to how it is heard in English. With a powerful voice and street-based lyrics, Salazar’s music portrays the realistic experiences of a young first-generation Cuban-American living in the U.S. In a period where music consumers search for answers, Salazar is delivering truth to an ever-growing Spanish community.

“I’m determined to take Spanish hip-hop to the next level,” he said. “I want people to remember me for changing the way Hispanics express themselves musically.”
