LOS ANGELES, CA – Chattanooga, Tennessee is home to talented Hip-Hop artist, Papi Sensei. After being adopted by his aunt at a young age, he started off in his path to a music career by writing original poems and short stories. Growing up, Papi Sensei often hung around his cousin who had his own music group, in which the artist really enjoyed. Though his goal may have been to learn some in’s and out’s of performing, his innate rhyming and writing abilities caught the attention of the group. This moment is significant, as it serves as the time when Papi Sensei fell in love with the art of rapping. “I fell in love with it,” said the artist. “Just hearing myself, and the things that I could create and say… my imagination was big.”
His debut into the music scene was the release of his first EP, “Distinction”, in 2014. Papi Sensei was pleased at how much initial buzz this project produced, which ultimately led to his next single, “Stand Strong”. Shortly after, he connected with fellow artist Lex Luger on the hit record, “Let it Go”. Though the artist was relatively new on the scene, his following quickly progressed, as his fans vibed with his overall aesthetic and message.
The year 2016 kept the artist extremely busy, as his schedule filled up with various performance requests. Though he spent a lot of his time traveling from city to city, he remained committed to growing the business aspect of his career. This allowed the artist to envision the trajectory of his music career, and set achievable goals for himself on and off the stage.
No stranger to hard work and dedication, Papi Sensei is fresh off the release of his latest single, “Depend on Me”. The record belongs to his upcoming EP, “The Era of Sensei”, which will be released later this year in September. “’Depend on Me’ is about how I grew up early. I grew up pretty fast,” said Papi Sensei. “So, ‘Depend on Me’ is derived from that, and all the challenges I’ve had to do. It’s what makes me, me”.
When asked about his sound and style, the artist responds: “You really never know what you’re going to get, but you know it’s gonna be organic.” A truly versatile artist, Papi Sensei stays true to himself in a way that is incomparable to other artists.
