LOS ANGELES, CA – Hip-Hop artist Rylan Carter is a Mississippi native, which is something that runs through every fiber of his being. Growing up, the artist was raised in a Baptist home, as his father was a minister. Though his mother passed away when he was at the young age of five years old, he found hope and light through music. When thinking of how his passion for music developed so early on, he recalls how his grandmother bought him MC Hammer’s video tapes, in which he would routinely watch. Through emulating MC Hammer’s style, he realized this was something he wanted to implement in his daily life through his genuine enjoyment.
As Carter grew older, he began listening to his favorite artists such as Wu-Tang Clan and Juvenile, who both inspired him to start putting his thoughts to paper. “I would listen to their songs, and insert my own quotes into their music,” said the artist. “I made it fit my own words.” Later, in his high school years, Carter made his first rap song. Much to his surprise, everyone who heard the track fell in love with it. This moment in his life provided even more affirmation that his life was going in the right direction.
Rylan Carter soon connected with his childhood friend, Jontae “Da Poet” Hall, and joined the Poetic Minds team. His first collaboration was with Da Poet and YBH, in which the duo released “Power of Mind”. It was no surprise that the project had fans going crazy and caused them to want more. Following “Power of Mind” was their second project titled “The Walking Dead”, based on the hit TV show. Carter recalls how people from all over started heavily latching on to his sound, which further motivated him to keep making more music.
Building on his success as an artist, Rylan Carter remained diligent in his studio sessions, and later released his single “The Truth”. His newfound fans routinely asked him if and when he was going to make a full-blown album, which is an aspect of his career that he really appreciated. Carter also gives credit to his younger brother, Josh “Da Real” Anderson, for pushing him to be the best he can be, and doing more in his career. And, he continues to do just that.
Currently, Carter is working on his upcoming mixtape titled “RAHH”, which is a true depiction of his musical style and vibe. As his fans have come to associate him with the word “raw” itself, Carter promises to deliver “gritty, somewhat socially conscious, in your face lyrics with humor combined with wit”. The mixtape will feature around 10 original tracks, in which Carter will be delivering the audience a message about his thoughts on everyday life and social issues, as he speaks openly without parameters. “RAHH” will be released this winter.
